My Jekyll blog.
Fun times. I didn't watch much of the match but I followed it on Cricinfo. Incidentally a 337 run win margin is the largest by India in England: such is the scale of Gill and co.'s performance, and England's... crapness. Bazball as a philosophy has been a nice upturn from the glum latter days of the Root captaincy, but it has also been the source of bewilderment and frustration on my part. More than that, by the admission of its promoters, Bazball is nothing more than a stopgap measure, an attempt to patch up the many problems with the county cricket system. It also pledges to entertain in the process, and who wouldn't be entertained by bowlers being completely neutralised after the first 20 overs of the new ball?
Anyway, I'm not a cricket analyst by any means, just someone who's been a Bazball cynic since the last Ashes series. Just feels a little cultish at times, especially how they defend mediocre players like Crawley and Pope to the moon and back, justifying their inclusion by referring to the few times they actually contributed. Crawley's last major contribution, incidentally, was during the last Ashes.
Elsewhere we're being raked over the coals as well -- by India as well. England U19s have been continually battered by the nominally 14 year old Suryavanshi during the India U19 tour, and England women trail 2-1 in the T20I series against their Indian counterparts. It's all a bit meh right now.
